Borno Gov’t receives N12B donations for Alau Dam flood victims

The Borno State Government has announced it has received over N12 billion in cash and material donations for victims of the Alau Dam flood disaster in Maiduguri.

The Senior Special Adviser on New Media to the Borno Governor, Abdurrahman Bundi, shared this update on Thursday.

Bundi noted that the donations came from various sources, including corporate organizations, state governments, National and State Assembly members, individuals, and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

Among the largest contributions, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) donated N3 billion along with food supplies. Aliko Dangote contributed N2 billion, Aminu Dantata gave N1.5 billion, and Mohammed Indimi donated N1 billion.

Other notable contributions include N1.2 billion from Borno local government areas, N500 million from Oluremi Tinubu, and N250 million each from Bauchi and Niger states. Additionally, the people of Southern Borno donated N200 million.

Prominent individuals such as Dahiru Mangal, Atiku Abubakar, Mukhtar Betara, Ali Modu Sheriff, and several state governments, including Kebbi, Yobe, Kano, Taraba, Katsina, Kaduna, and Zamfara, collectively contributed N100 million each.

Buba Marwa, Director General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Matrix Energy donated 10 trucks of fertilizer and foodstuff, each valued at over N120 million.

Other significant donors include Adamawa State, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Ahmed Lawan, and Ibrahim Umar, among others, who each contributed N50 million. The Borno State House of Assembly also donated N60 million.

Nasarawa State Government made an in-kind donation of six trucks loaded with rice, spaghetti, and sugar, while many other individuals and organizations contributed between N1 million and N30 million.

These funds and materials will support the relief efforts for the victims of the flood, which caused significant damage in Maiduguri.
