"Biden painting a target on our backs" -- pro-Palestinian youth

United States President Joe Biden makes himself infamous with the pro-Palestinian camp hours after police invaded and destroyed another protest encampment in support of Palestinians, following the president’s comments declaring that “order must prevail” on American university campuses.

During a brief press conference on Thursday, Biden emphasized that “violent protest is not protected” but that both the rule of law and the right to free speech “must be upheld.”

“Vandalism, trespassing, breaking windows, shutting down campuses, forcing the cancellation of classes and graduation — none of this is a peaceful protest. Threatening people, intimidating people, instilling fear in people is not a peaceful protest,” the POTUS was quoted saying.

Joe Biden further added in his address that;

There’s a right to protest but not the right to cause chaos, stressing in his address that ‘Dissent is essential to democracy, but dissent must never lead to disorder or to denying the rights of others’.

Students and other onlookers swiftly attacked Biden’s remarks on Thursday, pointing out that they ignored the fact that American schools and universities had dispatched highly armed police officers to break up peaceful protests.

Many people have expressed their disapproval of the recent arrests of instructors and students at Columbia University in New York and UCLA, among other institutions.

However, Joe Biden made no mention of police use of force or university policies in his brief speech. He said nothing about the reports that pro-Palestinian protestors at the UCLA campsite this week had been attacked by pro-Israel demonstrators.

The United States president declared that “anti-Semitism or threats of violence against Jewish students” have no place on college campuses.

However, student protestors have denied claims that their camps are dangerous or anti-Semitic.

Regarding Biden’s comments, a student of George Washington University states; “There’s a [sense of] disappointment, but there’s no surprise.”

According to quotes from the student’s statement with Al Jazeera, Joe Biden is alleged to be portraying Arab, Muslim, Palestinian and anti-Zionist youths as targets.
