Ballon d’Or: Cristiano Ronaldo would be absent to vote
The head of the Ballon d’Or, Vincent Garcia, said that Cristiano Ronaldo will no longer vote.
Garcia also made it sound like Ronaldo is one of the people who are “very upset” about the award decisions.
This award has been given to the Portuguese football star five different times, with Lionel Messi having won it eight times.
Also, Ronaldo hasn’t been named the world’s best football player since 2017.
After Messi’s latest win in 2023, Ronaldo liked an Instagram post that claimed Messi had won three Ballons d’Or too many.
The last 30 players chosen do not include Messi or Ronaldo. This is the first time this is happening in 21 years .
Garcia told The Times: “Winners have the right to come back to all future ceremonies but they don’t all come, some are very upset with us.
“I don’t know for certain Cristiano is, I don’t talk to him directly, but I know for example that former winners vote for the Kopa Trophy – for the best young player – and Cristiano didn’t vote last year and he didn’t vote this year either.”
