“Bad luck that did not hide the truth” — Pochettino on Chelsea loss
Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, openly acknowledged that his team deserved the defeat they suffered at the hands of Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The Blues faced a resounding 4-1 loss at Anfield, with Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Luis Díaz all finding the net for the hosts, while Christopher Nkunku managed a consolation goal for Chelsea in the second half.
Speaking about the match, Pochettino conceded, “It was so clear they were much better than us. We lost every single duel. Every time we recovered the ball, after the first or second touch, we lost the ball.” The Chelsea manager acknowledged Liverpool’s superiority, emphasizing that the defeat was well-deserved for the home team.
Reflecting on specific moments in the game, Pochettino noted,
“In the second half, we changed a little bit, and Mudryk had a clear chance to score, but then we conceded. Then we score, 3-1, and maybe a penalty on Nkunku provides us with a possibility. But nothing to complain about with the decision. It is only that they were better than us.
“It was bad luck for us but that does not change the feeling that Liverpool was better than us.”
The comprehensive loss leaves Chelsea in 10th place in the Premier League standings, with 31 points from 22 games.
