The national headquarters of the Aye Confraternity, also known as the Neo Black Movement (NBM) or  Black Axe, has reportedly been demolished by the Edo State Government in Benin City.

A Facebook video posted on Wednesday revealed a building demolition believed to be the group’s headquarters brought down in a government-led operation earlier today.

Elvis Chris, who posted the video, gave only a few details as of the time of this report.

Also, the Edo State Government has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.

The Neo Black Movement, which identifies itself as a socio-cultural organisation, has long been accused by authorities and security agencies of links to violent cult activities—an allegation the group has consistently denied.

Efforts to obtain confirmation or comment from local officials and law enforcement are ongoing.

The Neo Black Movement of Africa (NBM) is a male brotherhood founded in 1977 by students from the University of Benin. It focuses on “intellectual radicalism in pursuit of Pan-African struggles”.
