The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a stern warning to citizens, urging them to refrain from purchasing and consuming B-GAG Healthy Syrup.

The regulatory body has flagged the syrup as a potential health risk, stating that it has not undergone the necessary laboratory examinations to verify its safety, quality, and efficacy.

In a statement posted on its official website, NAFDAC highlighted that B-GAG Healthy Syrup lacks a registration number and contains misleading labeling information. The product, produced by Babban Gida Agalawa General Enterprises, carries batch number 0070 and lists its production site as No. 883/884 Western Bypass Ring Road, Kumbosto Local Government Area, Kano State, Nigeria.

NAFDAC officials discovered the unapproved syrup during surveillance activities in Maiduguri, Borno State, and Keffi, Nasarawa State. The agency emphasized the risks posed by the syrup, warning that it cannot vouch for the product’s safety and urging consumers to avoid it.

“Consumers and caregivers are hereby advised to exercise caution and vigilance to avoid the use of the product. All medical products must be obtained from authorized/licensed suppliers. The products’ authenticity and physical condition should be carefully checked,” NAFDAC stated.

The agency also appealed to Nigerians who have used the syrup to report any adverse effects to their nearest NAFDAC office. This step is crucial for monitoring and addressing any potential health issues arising from the use of the product.

Additionally, NAFDAC announced plans to notify the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Surveillance and Monitoring System (GSMS) about the illegal production and marketing of B-GAG Healthy Syrup.

So far, makers of the syrup have not been heard from by the media to counter NAFDAC’s warning.
