APC suspends Taraba governorship candidate

Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, has been suspended over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension, which was signed by all the Mararaba, Donga Local Government ward executives of the APC, was issued due to a petition dated February 22, 2023, that contained complaints levied against Bwacha.

The petition alleges various acts of indiscipline, misconduct, insubordination of the chairman of APC Donga Local Government, and disobedience to the Supreme Court judgment delivered in the case of CHIEF David Sabo Kente Vs Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha on February 1, 2023.

Bwacha was ordered to appear before a seven-man fact-finding and disciplinary committee on March 13, 2023, to defend himself against the petition.

The suspension letter directed him to suspend all related illegal activities, including campaigning, or face heavy consequences.

This development came after a Federal High Court judgment ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognize Bwacha as the APC governorship candidate in Taraba State.

The decision was made despite the Supreme Court sacking Bwacha due to the party’s failure to conduct a valid primary. Bwacha went ahead to conduct primaries that other aspirants allegedly boycotted.

The suspension has further plunged the APC into a crisis just one week before the governorship election in Taraba State.
