An American citizen in his early 30s attempted to commit suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Monday, June 10. According to the Lagos State Police Command, the man was saved by the timely intervention of a passerby and patrolling officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

The incident occurred at approximately 1:23 p.m. when the American, accompanied by his baby mama and their daughter, directed her to park their vehicle while he walked to a spot on the bridge. Unbeknownst to his companion, he intended to leap into the lagoon.

A vigilant passerby noticed the man’s suspicious movements and promptly alerted RRS operatives patrolling the area. The officers managed to persuade the man to abandon his suicide attempt and reunited him with his baby mama before escorting the family to the RRS Headquarters in Alausa.

The Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, after offering advice to the man and his family, instructed that the case be transferred to the Gender Department of the Lagos Police Command for further counseling and necessary actions.

The quick response and intervention of both the passerby and the RRS operatives were crucial in preventing a tragic incident, highlighting the importance of community vigilance and effective law enforcement.
