In the wake of the Nigerian Super Eagles’ defeat in the AFCON final match against Ivory Coast, legendary footballer JayJay Okocha has stepped forward to defend his nephew, footballer Alex Iwobi, who has been targeted with vicious cyberbullying.
Taking to his Instagram page this morning, Okocha expressed his dismay at the negative backlash directed towards Iwobi and called for empathy and mutual respect among Nigerians.
“I pray for my country Nigeria and the people that can only hate and see nothing good in others,” Okocha posted.
“When effort counts for nothing, treat people the way you want them to treat you, all we have is this life and each other.”
In his heartfelt message, Okocha extended his support to Iwobi, emphasizing the importance of standing together despite adversity.
“We love you @alexanderiwobi and we keep going no matter what they say,” he affirmed, adding,
“The Lord is good all the time and we trust that his will be done in our lives. Amen.”
