Alcohol damaged your internal organ not food poisoning — Atiku to Wike
Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has responded to the claims made by the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, regarding his alleged poisoning, stating that Wike was a victim of self-inflicted alcoholic poisoning.
Atiku’s comments were conveyed through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, who advised Wike to seek confession rather than thanksgiving, considering his controversial role in the elections in Rivers State.
During a special Thanksgiving service held in his honor at St. Peters Deanery, Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor, on Sunday, Wike had disclosed that he was poisoned at the secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in December 2018.
He claimed that the poison had severely affected his internal organs, including his liver and kidneys, and nearly claimed his life, but for divine intervention.
In response, Phrank Shaibu released a statement on Monday suggesting that Nyesom Wike should reduce his alcohol consumption in light of his claim that his liver and kidneys failed due to poisoning. Shaibu drew attention to Wike’s professed fondness for whiskey, as the former governor had publicly expressed his love for the beverage.
Shaibu further emphasized that excessive alcohol consumption can lead to various health problems, including high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, digestive issues, and several types of cancer.
While Shaibu acknowledged that he is not a medical doctor, he pointed out the well-known risks associated with heavy drinking and questioned whether Wike’s alleged poisoning was the sole cause of his hoarse and husky voice.
Shaibu called for introspection on Wike’s part and suggested that he focus on confession and repentance instead of offering thanksgiving. Citing Psalm 51:17, which highlights the importance of a broken spirit and contrite heart, Shaibu noted that Wike has shown no remorse for the electoral malpractices he has been accused of.
The statement from Atiku’s camp also included references to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, describing him as Wike’s “master” and a “naked wire” known for causing harm. Shaibu urged Makinde to concentrate on delivering the promised dividends of democracy to the people of Oyo State, highlighting that he is the only member of the G5 (the group of PDP governors) currently holding political office.
Shaibu further referred to the other four members of the G5 as “jobless spent forces” seeking appointments and protection from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
As the exchange between Atiku Abubakar and Nyesom Wike continues, their statements highlight the ongoing political tensions and personal disagreements within the Nigerian political landscape.
The exchange sheds light on the strained relationship between these two prominent figures, offering insight into their differing perspectives on matters of governance and leadership.
