Aaron Ramsdale to blame — Gary Neville on Arsenal’s 3-3 draw
Former Manchester United player and pundit, Gary Neville, has criticized Arsenal goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, for his “very nervy” start in the Gunners’ Premier League clash against Southampton on Friday. Neville expressed his disappointment with Ramsdale’s mistake that led to Southampton scoring an early goal at the Emirates Stadium.
Ramsdale’s attempt to pass to his center-back went awry as Southampton’s Carlos Alcaraz seized the opportunity to intercept the loose ball and score a goal against the Arsenal keeper.
Commenting on Ramsdale’s error during the match’s live broadcast on Sky Sports, Neville said, “Wow, I had flashbacks to David de Gea and Harry Maguire last night.”
The former footballer also compared Ramsdale’s mistake to those of De Gea and Maguire in Manchester United’s Europa League match against Sevilla. Neville further noted that while Ramsdale had performed impressively in Arsenal’s previous match against Liverpool, he could have done better for the second goal against West Ham.
The pundit expressed concern about Ramsdale’s “nervy start” and its impact on Arsenal’s performance in the game, stating that it had put the team “top of the league against the bottom right up against it.” Neville’s comments highlight the importance of goalkeepers in football and the pressure they face to perform consistently.
