U.S Elections: Kamala Harris moves to mark territory

Sunday was a shocker to the world as United States’ president, Joe Biden announced his resignation from the 2024 presidential election to select his Vice, Kamala Harris as his nominee to go against the Republican Party.

Now, in an unprecedented move, the Vice President has swiftly moved to mark her territory ahead of the coming polls as she faces some influential figures in the run-in to November.

Biden vs. Trump: Why Democrats are worried

Biden, citing concerns over his age and health at 81, officially stepped out of the race, pledging his full support to Harris, 59, who aims to become the first woman president in U.S. history.

Campaign officials and Harris’s allies sprang into action, making hundreds of calls on Sunday to secure delegate support ahead of the Democratic Party convention next month. These calls were crucial in fending off potential Democratic challengers and were initiated almost immediately following Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

Democratic state party chairs also threw their weight behind Harris in a strategic phone call. Key figures such as Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, a potential vice-presidential pick, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Congressional Black Caucus chair Representative Steven Horsford have been actively involved in consolidating support for Harris.

Kamala Harris becomes the first Black and Asian-American woman, selected to face off against Republican the 78-year-old Donald Trump in what promises to be a historic and highly charged election.

The dynamic between Harris and Trump offers a stark generational and cultural contrast, poised to capture the nation’s attention.

Trump, never one to shy away from controversy, quickly declared, “Harris will be easier to beat than Joe Biden would have been,” during a CNN interview shortly after Biden’s announcement.

Despite stepping back from the campaign trail, Biden will remain in office until his term concludes on January 20, 2025, while actively championing Harris’s bid for the presidency.
