Enugu fire outbreak: Fire service responds quickly to contain blaze

A devastating fire outbreak on Tuesday night ravaged at least five shops at the timber market in Kenyatta Street, Uwani, Enugu State.

The Enugu timber market fire, which was reported at 9:45 pm, was quickly contained by the state Fire Service, preventing further damage to other parts of the market.

A firefighter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the service received a distress call and responded promptly to quell the blaze.

“Only about five shops were affected by the fire,” the fireman said. “I cannot say much on this incident as I am not the Chief Fire Officer.”

An eyewitness, Joe, who witnessed the incident, attributed the quick response to the fire service’s prompt arrival, which prevented a more catastrophic outcome. “I thank God and the fire service for the quick response,” he said.

“Otherwise, it would have been disastrous.”

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and investigations are ongoing.

Topnaija recalled that a fire outbreak struck the bustling Dosunmu market located on Lagos Island, Lagos State.

Ibrahim Farinloye, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Zonal Coordinator for South-West, confirmed the incident on Tuesday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses captured alarming photographs and videos depicting flames consuming multiple high-rise buildings within the market area.
