Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Condemn Nimbo Killings, Issue Ultimatum to Security Agencies

The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has voiced strong condemnation over the recent tragic killings of residents in the Nimbo community, located in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, allegedly by suspected herdsmen.

The devastating incident, which claimed the lives of Okeh Oruki, Okeh Chukwuemeka, Julius Odiegwu, and Gabriel Ezra—all natives of Nimbo—occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, sending shockwaves throughout the region.

At a world press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, the national youth leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, accompanied by other executive members of the youth wing, expressed profound regret over the continuous perpetration of violence by suspected Fulani herders. Okpalaezeukwu highlighted the perpetrators’ brazen acts of ethnic cleansing under the guise of the farmer-herder crisis.

The apex Igbo youth body lamented the staggering loss of lives and the displacement of thousands of individuals from their homes. They criticized governmental inaction, emphasizing that despite numerous atrocities, no perpetrators have faced justice, exacerbating feelings of injustice among affected communities.

The Ohanaeze youth underscored the historical context of such violence, drawing parallels to past events that led to the devastating civil war. In a decisive move, they issued a stern seven-day ultimatum to the Nigerian Police Force and sister security agencies, demanding the swift apprehension of the perpetrators. Failure to do so, they warned, would force citizens to take matters into their own hands.

Asserting their right to self-defence as a fundamental human right, the Igbo youths vowed to pursue all available means to safeguard their communities from further harm, refusing to be marginalized or overlooked any longer.
