Why I had to say 'No' to Liverpool -- Xabi Alonso

Bayer Leverkusen’s manager Xabi Alonso has made it clear that he will be staying with the Bundesliga leaders for at least one more season, despite significant interest from clubs like Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

In a statement issued on Friday, Xabi Alonso expressed his commitment to Leverkusen, citing unfinished business and a desire for further personal and team development.

“I’m not going to comment on Liverpool or Bayern. These are prestigious clubs, and I have strong ties to them, but I am where I want to be,” Alonso stated.

“It’s not the right time to make decisions about my future. I want to continue my growth and development at Bayer Leverkusen.”

Xabi Alonso emphasized the ongoing process of both his own development as a manager and the team’s progress on the field. “This is my first full season as a manager, and I believe there is still much for me to prove,” he said.

“Currently, I feel a strong sense of stability and happiness within the club. This alignment allows us to work together effectively in various aspects.”

Alonso’s decision to remain at Leverkusen comes amidst speculation linking him with high-profile managerial positions to both Bayern Munich and Liverpool who he has links to.

However, the former football star appears steadfast in his commitment to the German club, aiming to build on the progress achieved thus far in his managerial career.
