Watch Emotional moment between Eden Hazard and Romeo Lavia

Chelsea’s new signing, Romeo Lavia, shared an emotional call with Chelsea club legend, Eden Hazard the announcement of the Belgian’s seven-year contract with the Blues.

The deal, which saw Chelsea agree to a £58 million fee with Championship side Southampton for the promising midfielder, begins a career path for the Belgian who was involved in a summer transfer drama prior to his move to Stamford Bridge.

However, Lavia has put the saga behind him as he ultimately chose to don the blue jersey of Chelsea.

“I’m really happy to join Chelsea and be a part of this exciting project. It’s an amazing football club with a great history, and I’m really excited to get started,” Lavia said while conveying his genuine enthusiasm about the move.

“I can’t wait to meet all my new teammates and build a chemistry together to achieve great things.”

The excitement didn’t stop there however as the Belgian went on to have a video call with Eden Hazard, akin to how former Chelsea signing, Kalidou Koulibaly phoned John Terry shortly after his transfer.

The club treated its fans to the video capturing the emotional conversation between both Belgian stars.

Speaking from the Cobham training ground, a clearly surprised Lavia playfully referred to Hazard as “the big boss” as they shared their thoughts about the move.

Unpacking his reasons for choosing Chelsea over Liverpool, Lavia explained,

“I think the project and ambitions of the club were key factors, but also the history behind it. So, these three factors determined my decision.”

The young midfielder’s decision-making process was underscored by a belief in the club’s vision, a sentiment shared by the players he will now call teammates.
