An elderly woman who was trapped in her building as a result of Lagos flood was rescued by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA on Saturday.

As the Saturday heavy downpour was experienced by some parts of the State on Saturday, the LASEMA came to the rescue of an elderly woman who was trapped in her Ipaja-Ayobo residence.

It was gathered that residents of the area alerted the emergency responders through a distress call.

Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said a team of the agency was swiftly deployed to the area to carry out the rescue operation.

He said it was discovered that flooding had ravaged the area resorting to the near-drowning of the elderly woman.

As confirmed by the search and rescue operation by the Agency’s response team, the victim is alive, although suffering from a stroke.

She was, however, “extricated” from the building, according to LASEMA PS who disclosed that the Pre-hospital care unit of the agency administered first aid to the victim before she was transported to an undisclosed hospital.

According to the Daily Trust, numerous portions of Lagos State have been flooded as a result of the flash flood that destroyed parts of the state, devastating lives, and property.

Meanwhile, as the flood caused by the downpour affects many Lagos citizens, LASEMA has informed the people of the state that it is ready to react via its emergency lines 112/767.

The LASEMA PS said, “We are also urging Lagosians to avoid non-essential travel in areas that are mostly affected by flooding. Parents and guardians are to keep their children and wards warm and dry to avoid secondary illnesses.

“This is an appeal to community leaders to use the public holidays to carry out some remedial clearing of blocked drainage. This will allow for free flow of stormwater and reduce the impact.”

He added that the government is poised to assist all those dealing with flood damage.
