Calabar and its environs have reportedly entered the 33rd day of blackout on Tuesday, May 10.

According to Topnaija sources, the hoodlums of Itu had vandalized the electricity tower of Ikot Ekpene, Calabar, on April 8.

This has led to a power outage in Odukpani and Akpabuyo local government areas.

Residents of the affected areas have expressed their worries to the press concerning the repair of the electricity tower after 33 days.

They pleaded with the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) to repair the tower and restore electricity in the areas.

Mrs. Ada Francis, who sells tiger-nut juice said, “This development has dealt a blow on my business. I spend about N1,000 daily on ice blocks.

“Making profit is now difficult. I urge those in charge to do something quickly.”

Barber, Mr. Edet Isaac lamented, “It is not funny at all. We cannot continue this way. “The concerned authorities should be alive to their duties.”

Regional Manager of the PHEDC, Mr. Collins Igwe claimed that work was still ongoing on the vandalized tower and appealed to residents of the affected areas to be patient.

He said, ”We are not resting, we are working tirelessly to restore power.”
