7 killed, 26 abducted by terrorists in Niger

Reports have it that about seven persons lost their lives, and 26 others were abducted in Niger State by terrorists.

The terrorist attack, which has been incessant in the past five days, displaced residents of seven communities in Mashegu local government area to Kontagora of Niger State.

Confirming the terrorist attack, the chairman of Mashegu local government area, Hon Umar Jibrin Igede, lamented the attacks on about seven local communities, adding that from January to March 2023, hundreds of residents were killed and abducted.

“Already, seven of the communities in the local government have been deserted as a result of incessant attacks from the bandits.

“In the last two weeks, terrorists have unleashed terror on Kulho, Sahon Rami, and Tashan Hajiya among other communities. Most of the villagers in the affected communities have deserted their homes to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Kontagora and other places for their safety,” he said.

Igede urged the state administration and relevant security authorities to intervene and put a stop to terrorist acts in the local government area.

In other news, Italy has placed a temporary ban on OpenAI’s ChatGPT due to concerns over privacy and safety.

The country’s data protection authority has accused OpenAI of unlawfully collecting personal data from users and cited a data breach that occurred on March 20.

The watchdog also criticized ChatGPT’s lack of age verification, which could expose minors to illicit material.

OpenAI has been given 20 days to provide additional information and possible remedies before a final decision is made about the future of the product in Italy.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded to the ban on Twitter, saying that he defers to the Italian government and has ceased offering ChatGPT in Italy.

Altman also recently commented that customer service is a category of jobs that could be massively impacted by ChatGPT, but he believes human creativity is limitless and new jobs will be found eventually.
