25-year-old man arrested for stealing cows belonging to OAU topnaija.ng

A 25-year-old man identified as Sulaiman Ibrahim was arraigned before the Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Tuesday for allegedly stealing four cows belonging to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The defendant, who appeared before Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji, was charged with conspiracy and stealing.

The police prosecutor, Elijah Adesina, explained that the defendant committed the offences on May 30, 2020, at a commercial farm located on the OAU campus.

Adesina stated that the defendant and others currently at large stole four cattle valued at N1.6m, which belonged to the Students Economic Empowerment and Development Programme, OAU.

The offences were said to contravene sections 383, 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

Ibrahim pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His counsel, Omodogbe Babawale, urged the court to admit him to bail.

In her ruling, Olatunji admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N750,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the matter till June 30, 2020, for hearing.

In another development, the Ekiti State Police Command, on Tuesday, arraigned a 20-year-old man, Abdulazeez Nasiru, before an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into a church and stealing generators, money and other valuables.

Nasiru is standing trial on two counts of burglary and stealing.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on May 25, 2020, around 1am on Isato Ologoro Street, Ado Ekiti.

Apata alleged that the defendant and others at large broke into the Sacred Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Orisun Ibukun, where they stole the items.”

He said the defendant and his accomplices stole valuables and N166,000 belonging to the church.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Kehinde Awosika granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till July 6, 2020, for hearing.
