2027 Elections: Pat Utomi spills Atiku, Obi secret

2027 elections, Peter Obi and Abubakar Atiku are cooking up a surprise for the ruling power — Pat Utomi hints.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, political economist Professor Pat Utomi disclosed plans for a potential coalition among major Nigerian political parties – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The objective is to create a unified mega party in anticipation of the 2027 general elections, presenting a formidable challenge to the current ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Professor Utomi revealed that candidates from these parties in the 2023 presidential elections have agreed in principle to establish this mega party.

The move is seen as an effort to address Nigeria’s political landscape, which, according to Utomi, has not effectively served the interests of the people since 1999.

During the interview, Professor Utomi emphasized the need for a clean start, asserting that Nigeria has lacked a true political party since 1999. He criticized the existing platforms, characterizing them as tools for machine politics that have not improved the quality of life for Nigerians.

When asked about the failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to meet expectations, Utomi attributed it to a lack of commitment from those in power. He claimed that the APC, founded in 2014, was not allowed to succeed, pointing to issues with state governance.

Professor Utomi expressed his disappointment with the current state of Nigerian politics, stating that the country has become the poverty capital of the world.

He underscored the need for a political party that focuses on the rational engagement of a developmental state, drawing comparisons with India’s progress since 1999.

Addressing questions about his previous support for Peter Obi and the Labour Party in 2023, Utomi clarified that it was a temporary measure. He now aims to design and establish a real political party with clear values, policies, and a national strategy.

When questioned about the potential presidential candidate for the new party, Utomi deflected, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the party’s values, policies, and national strategy rather than individual candidates.

In discussing his relationship with Bola Tinubu, Professor Utomi highlighted the need to move away from the current circus of elections and instead focus on building a great country for all Nigerians.
