137 rescued Kaduna schoolchildren to reunite with families today

The 137 schoolchildren rescued from terrorists in Kaduna are set to reunite with their families today, Thursday.

This announcement follows days of uncertainty and anxiety for both the children and their loved ones.

The rescue operation was initiated after the state government disclosed on Sunday that the abducted students had been successfully rescued in Zamfara State.

Governor Uba Sani personally received the children in Kaduna on Monday, accompanied by Major General Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division.

During the reception, it was revealed that tragically, one of the abducted teachers had lost their life in captivity. Additionally, six students were hospitalised due to injuries sustained during the ordeal.

The Secretary to the State Government of Kaduna, Dr. Abdulkadir Meyere, shared that the formal reunion with their parents would take place today.

The children are currently receiving psychosocial therapy at the Women and Children Shelter, ensuring they receive the necessary support to cope with their experiences.

Parents of the abducted children expressed profound gratitude to the government for their tireless efforts in rescuing the students.

They offered prayers for the success and protection of the government officials involved and acknowledged the trauma endured by the families during the ordeal.

The rescued students themselves shared their reflections on the harrowing experience. Suleiman Lawal expressed gratitude for their safe return, emphasising the role of divine intervention. Aisha Mohammed thanked the government for their swift intervention and for facilitating their reunion with their families.

As the Kaduna schoolchildren prepare to embrace their families once again, the collective sentiment is one of gratitude, resilience, and hope for a brighter future ahead.
