10 Youth Corp Members to repeat service year in Bauchi
The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, has announced that ten members of the NYSC in Bauchi State will face an extension of their service year by at least three weeks to one month due to various misconducts committed during their service.
Mrs Yakubu revealed on Thursday that the misconducts included abscondment and absenteeism throughout their service year. She emphasized that the NYSC has a zero-tolerance policy for truancy and will not hesitate to impose penalties on any corps member found in violation of the rules and regulations.
The Bauchi State NYSC coordinator further stated that a total of 401 corps members from the 22 Batch B Stream II successfully completed their service in the state. Among the group were 269 males and 132 females.
During the passing-out ceremony, four corps members were recognized and honored with merit awards from the Bauchi State government. These awards were given in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their host communities through impactful Community Development Projects and Services carried out during their service year.
Addressing the corps members, Mrs Yakubu commended those who received awards and encouraged them to sustain their commitment to positive change even after completing their service.
She emphasized the importance of the post-skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development training, urging participants to complete the training as it would enhance their chances of becoming employers of labor.
The coordinator also advised those who had not acquired any skills during their service to start engaging in productive activities, even with the last allowance they received. She emphasized that taking any small step towards self-sufficiency is better than remaining idle at home.
Mrs Yakubu concluded by urging the corps members to make their parents proud by pursuing meaningful endeavors and utilizing the opportunities available to them. She encouraged them to make a difference in their communities, no matter how small, as it would contribute to their personal growth and the betterment of society.
As the NYSC members reflect on their service year and plan for the future, the extension of service for the ten individuals due to misconduct serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to the guidelines and values of the NYSC program.
