Applications are open for the EU-EaP Academy for Next Generation of Scholars in European Studies in Kyiv, Ukraine. February 11-15, 2019. The EU-EaP Academy will bring together doctoral students and early-career scholars, who specialize in EU or EU-EaP-related topics.

The aim of this joint initiative is to combine academic and practitioner expertise on how all six EaP countries cooperate with the European Union in different fields within the framework of the Eastern Partnership and other relevant multi- and bilateral initiatives. The EU-EaP Academy will address core questions related to the role of the EU in Eastern Europe, explore different aspects of the relations of the EU with respective EaP countries, update on the implementation of Association Agreements, examine key domestic and external challenges hampering EU-EaP contacts, discuss future scenarios for EU-EaP relations.

Participants will receive the first-hand information about the relations of individual EaP countries with the EU, enhance both research and teaching excellence, reinforce skills related to their integration in academic and public life.

The EU-EaP Academy will combine a series of inspiring lectures with soft skills workshops, dynamic group activities, and individual presentations of research projects. A special session will focus on Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Activities to encourage the participation of young scholars. A number of unforgettable social events will be organized to support networking and follow-up activities.

The invited speakers are the internationally recognized scholars, high-level officials, civil society leaders from the EU and the six EaP countries. This not-to-be-missed event – packed with the cutting edge context and insights on the EU-EaP relations – will be an invaluable resource for doctoral students and early-career scholars in field of European Studies.

Cost and Scholarship

  • Participation is free of charge.
  • The Jean Monnet Project will provide a number of scholarships for citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine covering traveling, accommodation and meals.
  • Candidates from other countries are welcome to participate, but are expected to cover expenses by their own. A reasonable personal contribution for expenses on selected social events is expected from the participants.

Benefits

  • The most successful participants will be invited to the International Conference “Reflecting on the future of the EU-EaP relations: Young Scholars’ Voice” scheduled for June 2019.
  • Upon finishing the program, the participants will receive a certificate of completion of the EU-EaP Academy in the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme – Jean Monnet Project.

Information on the venue and logistics will be provided to accepted participants at a later stage. They are expected to submit the draft of their research (up to 2500 words) by February 1, 2019.

Eligibility

The EU-EaP Academy is open to doctoral students and early-career scholars (within 5 years from the completion of their PhD) whose research interests cover EU or the EU-EaP-related topics. Candidates must have a working knowledge of English
