Zamfara state protesters occupy EFCC HQ, demand investigation into former governor
In a bold display of civic engagement, protesters hailing from Zamfara State descended upon the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, occupying its entrance with fervent demands.
Their target? The reopening of investigations into the actions of the state’s former governor, Bello Matawalle.
Under the banner of the APC Loyalists Forum, these demonstrators are adamant that the anti-graft agency revisit allegations against Matawalle, pressing for a thorough examination of purported financial misconduct during his tenure.
Specifically, they cite concerns over the alleged diversion of contracts amounting to a staggering N70 billion.
According to reports from Channels TV, the protesters hand-delivered a formal letter to Wilson Uwujaren, the Director of Public Affairs for the EFCC, who received it on behalf of the agency’s chairman.
In response, Uwujaren conveyed the EFCC’s unwavering commitment to pursuing all corruption cases to their rightful conclusions, assuaging some of the demonstrators’ concerns.
The impassioned gathering underscores a growing call for accountability within Nigeria’s political landscape, with citizens actively demanding transparency and justice from public officials.
As the EFCC now grapples with this renewed pressure, the outcome of this latest push for scrutiny remains uncertain, leaving both protesters and observers alike awaiting further developments.
