YouTube Reveals Reasons It Will Be Eliminating Popular Feature On The App

YouTube has announced that former feature known as  Stories will come to an end.

While it is inspired by Instagram Stories, this particular feature on YouTube has remained largely unknown to users, with only a limited number of individuals realizing its existence within the app.

Youtube Stories were first introduced back in 2017 and were initially called Reels. They were available to YouTubers who had over 10,000 subscribers. The idea for Stories actually came from Instagram, which itself took inspiration from Snapchat.

Just like on those platforms, YouTube Stories would disappear after a certain amount of time. Creators could use Stories to share updates or show behind-the-scenes content to promote their channel. However, it seems that Stories didn’t become very popular on YouTube

“Today, there are many ways to create on YouTube – from Community posts to Shorts, to long-form and Live. To prioritize these key features, Stories are going away. Starting on 6/26/2023 the option to create a new YouTube Story will no longer be available. Stories that are already live on that date will expire 7 days after they were originally shared.
While Stories are going away, we’ve seen that both Community posts and YouTube Shorts are great alternatives that can deliver valuable audience connections and conversations,” YouTube said in a blog post.

Not many people knew about the Stories feature on YouTube. Access to it was limited, and only a few creators were regularly using it. YouTube also didn’t promote the feature much, so many users were unaware of its existence. As a result, YouTube has decided to remove the Stories feature.

YouTube wants creators to focus on other ways of sharing content on the platform. They are encouraging creators to use Community Posts and Shorts instead.

What are Community Posts on YouTube?

Community Posts are text-based updates that creators can share with their subscribers.

YouTube has recently expanded access to this feature and even added the option to make posts expire after a certain period. Creators can also share polls, quizzes, images, and videos as Community Posts. These posts appear in a dedicated tab on their channel, making it easier for subscribers to find and engage with them.

“We’ve recently expanded access to Community posts to millions of creators and have brought some of the popular aspects of Stories into Community posts such as rich editing tools, and the ability for posts to expire after 24 hours.

Creators can strengthen connections with their audiences through new engagement features including polls, quizzes, and filters and stickers,” YouTube said.
