National Youth Service Corps is generally a scheme that gets youths to engage in a year service to the nation immediately after graduation, but when that service leads to one getting abducted, it definitely calls for a narration.

A male corps member, Yiye Terlumun Madidi that was deployed to Sokoto State, recently sat with Daily Trust papers to recount how he escaped from abductors at a forest in Zamfara State.

From what was collected, Madidi was abducted alongside 2 other corps members with the incident having occurred few kilometers from an Army checkpoint in Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara.

The abduction victim revealed he had boarded a bus heading to Sokoto from Benue for the orientation camp before the abduction.

“I boarded a Benue link vehicle from Makurdi to Sokoto. It happened like magic. After an Army checkpoint before Sokoto, the bandits came out from the bush all of a sudden with guns and machetes and surrounded our vehicle. Immediately our driver noticed them, he abandoned his vehicle and fled.” Madidi narrated.

“The bandits numbering over 30 drove us into the forest with motorcycles. Three corpers including myself were in the vehicle with four other passengers.

“When it was night, the bandits fell into a deep sleep, and were snoring, I quietly moved from the scene and gradually walked through the bush. Though I didn’t know the direction I was going, I walked throughout the night in a bush. I walked kilometres to a hill and I was lost in the bush.”

Madidi said, revealing he managed to escape the hideout before finding his way to a police station.

The Youth corps member then revealed the government paid the ransom of N5 million for their release.
