"You won 1 League title in 30-years" -- Roy Keane to Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk got on the wrong side of Manchester United legend, Roy Keane following his comments post-match that criticized Man United’s tactics at Anfield.

The Manchester United legend did not hold back in his criticism of the Liverpool captain as he was sure to call Virgil van Dijk out on his arrogance after the goalless draw between the two rivals at Anfield.

Following the tightly contested game, where both sides failed to break the deadlock, Virgil van Dijk asserted Liverpool’s superiority across all aspects of play, mocking their bitter rivals for their ultra defensive approach to the game.

However, Keane condemned van Dijk’s statements, labeling them as displaying arrogance towards Manchester United.

“There’s a lot of arrogance coming out of him, dissing Manchester United like that. He needs reminding that he is playing for a club that has won one title in 30-odd years,” remarked Keane on Sky Sports.

Keane’s sharp comments highlighted his disagreement with van Dijk’s assessment, suggesting that the Dutch defender’s remarks were disrespectful given Liverpool’s historical struggles in securing league titles compared to United’s standing as a historically successful club.

Keane further emphasized the challenges faced by both clubs, asserting that Manchester United is also navigating a difficult phase, much like Liverpool has endured over the years.

“Manchester United are in a difficult place, just like Liverpool have been in a difficult place for many years. So maybe that arrogance backfired on him today,”

The former United player implied that van Dijk’s perceived arrogance might have had repercussions in the outcome of the match.

The draw saw Liverpool registering a significant number of shots and corners, but United had their opportunities, notably a chance through Rasmus Hojlund in the second half, which was denied by Alisson Becker.
