YAHOO Academy Ring busted in Abuja

At a time when the Federal Government shuts its eye to the decaying nature of Nigeria’s academic tertiary institutions, while letting academic unions go on lengthy months of strike, trust there to be rogue elements looking to steal the opportunity to profit.

It certainly what Afolabi Samad, a man residing in the suburb of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja has done as it took it upon himself to run a criminal academy that engages in educating youths on how to carry out internet fraud schemes to defraud victims.

Afolabi Samad was reported to have been nabbed and arrested along with 16 trainees in his institute of criminal learning by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, the 12th  of May.

He was confirmed to be arrested at Peace Estate, Lokogoma, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) which he reported to have rented for N3 million per annum.

The whole crew was said to have been arrested in the early hours of Thursday in the sting operation by the operatives of the Abuja zonal command of the EFCC following intelligence received on the activities of the criminal institute.

Reports as gathered confirms Afolabi as an internet fraudster, who opened the academy in a 3 bedroom flat to train young men in the art of defrauding victims in an apartment he rented for N3 million per annum.

From the statement by the EFCC, at the point of the arrest, the agency recovered items from Afolabi and his students which included 2 vehicles: a Lexus SUV and a Toyota Highlander SUV, phones of multiple brands, laptops, voodoo charms, and incriminating documents.

The statement also added that the arrested had provided useful information to the operatives and they are expected to be charged to court once investigations were concluded.
