Yahaya Bello: EFCC boss vows to reveal phone conversation

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has taken a firm stance regarding the investigation into former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, stating that he is personally committed to overseeing its completion.

Olukoyede went as far as to declare that he would resign if he did not directly oversee the conclusion of the inquiry.

According to reports, Olukoyede revealed that he personally reached out to Yahaya Bello, showing respect, and urged him to cooperate with the commission by appearing to address the charges against him. However, the former Kogi governor declined the invitation.

Speaking to journalists at the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, Olukoyede emphasized the critical role of public support in the EFCC’s anti-corruption endeavors. He stressed that the success of the agency’s efforts is vital for Nigeria’s reputation on the global stage.

Highlighting the positive outcomes of the EFCC’s ongoing initiatives, Olukoyede pointed to the appreciation of the Naira and improvements in the foreign exchange market.

The EFCC’s case against Bello involves 19 counts of alleged financial crimes, including money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of funds amounting to N80.2 billion. Olukoyede asserted the EFCC’s determination to prosecute Bello to a satisfactory conclusion and hold accountable all individuals who obstructed his arrest.
