Xenophobia: South Africans rejoice online as Nigerians are killed

Xenophobia trends once more in South Africa as a recent attack hits Nigerians residing in the country, and this time, social media posts capture Nigerians mourning their deceased ones while their hosts throw jabs to mock the West Africans.

A disturbing wave of online reactions has emerged from South Africa following the killing of six Nigerians in the country.

A video circulating online shows Nigerians mourning as the body of one of the victims was taken to his shop for a final visit before being repatriated to Nigeria.

The video has sparked a troubling response from some South Africans, who praised the perpetrators of the killings. Several individuals commented that six dead Nigerians were not enough, calling for more violence against Nigerians.

The incident and the ensuing reactions have heightened tensions and raised serious concerns about xenophobia and violence in South Africa.

Xenophobic attacks have gone on for years in the South African region, with a host of African nationals facing the wrath of their hosts in coordinated attacks on civilian victims. Both countries’ government amidst all the tension, have not been able to resolve the conflict.
