Africa is set to experience the Revival of Free Education as Afrilearn opens up its world-class Mobile App and Site for free.

If the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) could be bold enough to state in Article 26 that, “Everyone has the right to education,” then we cannot agree any less.

The provision of the international human right to education has been further metamorphosed and broken down into a bolder statement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – “to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”

In order to have achieved this goal, it is expected that in 8 years’ time, boys and girls should have access to free and quality primary and secondary education for effective learning outcomes. Sadly, in 2019, 34 million children within the age of primary education in Africa were not enrolled in school while 26 million children within the age of lower secondary education were out-of-school. In the upper secondary level, there were 33 million children that were not enrolled in school.

Thus, in a continent where the number of children out-of-school is in millions, the importance of ensuring a speedy achievement of the fourth Sustainable Development Goal – “to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for allis a necessity.

In this context, Afrilearn has opened up its education streaming app for primary and secondary school students for free.

It is believed that this decision is in partnership with the United Nations to ensure that boys and girls have access to free and quality primary and secondary education for effective learning outcomes through technology. Arriving at this decision from the company’s initial charge of ₦999 and ₦9999 monthly and yearly respectively was drawn from the initial mission of the company – “To deliver affordable world-class education to Africans anywhere.”

If the delivery of affordable world-class education to Africans everywhere would come at no cost, we would still have fulfilled our due mission and goal for Afrilearn International.

At Afrilearn, we believe Africa’s greatest need is quality education. Most times, we only invest in addressing the symptoms of poor leadership in Africa: we give palliatives, food, and handout to those impacted by disease, poverty, and illiteracy. But these efforts will never stop unless we democratize quality education to produce entrepreneurs who create jobs, and innovators who develop lasting solutions to the root causes of Africa’s problems.
