World Bank want the country’s hardship to last for 15 years – Shehu Sani speaks
Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has responded to the World Bank’s recommendations for Nigeria to continue its recent economic policies for the next 15 years.
In response, Sani accused the World Bank of planning to prolong Nigeria’s agony for another 15 years before reaching the promised land.
Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “The World Bank wants the hardship to extend to the next fifteen years before we can reach the promise land. I don’t know of how many people will be remaining at that time to enjoy the fruits of the WB in its promise land. The question is How many African countries have the World Bank taken to the promise land?” [sic].
Sani’s comment comes after the World Bank announced that the Nigerian Naira would be one of the worst-performing currencies in Sub-Saharan Africa by the end of August 2024.
The World Bank revealed this in the most recent edition of Africa’s Pulse report.
According to the report, the Naira is seeing the same fall as the Ethiopian Birr and the South Sudanese Pound in the region.
The research blamed the Naira’s fall in recent months on rising dollar demand and restricted dollar inflows.
According to the study, the Naira has dropped by nearly 43% as of August.
