Woman sells nine months old baby for N200,000

Blessing Stephen, has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars for selling a 19-month-old baby.
According to TopNaija.ng, the Rivers state Magistrate’s Court, Port Harcourt, jailed her for conspiracy and child trafficking.
Reports also identified one Stephen as an accomplice in the matter.
Chief Magistrate, Felicitas Amanze, established that Blessing lied to the child’s mother, Abigail Monday, that her baby was sold for N20,000, whereas she sold her for N20,000.
Her jail term breakdown is three years for count one and seven on count two. According to the chief magistrate, her sentence runs consecutively.
Monday, was also ordered by the court to sweep and dust the courtroom furniture for a year, broken down to thrice a week to.
A legal officer representing the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Esther Okorienta said, “We are delighted with the judgement of the court. We also noted with dismay the arrogance of the second defendant.
“She was not even remorseful after the judgement. We are happy that she was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. The rate of child trafficking in the country is alarming.”
