Woman captured while selling 3-month-old son for ₦150,000

Operatives of the Nigerian police force in Anambra State have arrested a woman, Emila Sunday, for attempting to sell her three-month-old son for N150,000.

 

Emila, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, was nabbed in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The 21-year-old Emila, who complained of hardship, allegedly wanted to sell the baby to raise money for Christmas.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.

He said the woman was nabbed on Tuesday by police personnel in Ojoto.

Mohammed stated, “On Tuesday, around 6pm, following intelligence report, police operatives attached to the Ojoto Division in Anambra State arrested one Emila Sunday, who claimed to be 21 years old from Akwa Ibom State, with a three-month-old baby boy at Ire village, Ojoto.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was attempting to sell her three-month-old son, due to what she claimed was hardship.”

 

The PPRO said the baby had been rescued and was in good health, adding that investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
