"Why we lost 4-1" -- Pochettino on Chelsea loss

In a post-match analysis following the unexpected 4-1 loss against Newcastle United at Saint James’ Park, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino voiced his profound disappointment, labeling the defeat as the “worst game of our season so far.”

Expressing frustration at the team’s lackluster performance, Pochettino highlighted a perceived absence of motivation, stating,

“We didn’t show we were playing for something important… even if we are young, it makes me very, very, very angry.”

He emphasized the missed opportunity to showcase their abilities, stressing, “We cannot miss the opportunity to show ourselves at our best.”

Acknowledging the youthful composition of the team, Pochettino underscored the necessity for such challenging situations, remarking,

“It’s a young team, they need this type of situation to realize.” He opted not to single out individuals for blame, asserting, “We can’t blame players, it’s the team together.”

Taking a proactive stance, the manager outlined immediate plans for the team, stating, “We’ll go to the hotel, then train early tomorrow, no time off.”

Pochettino emphasized the crucial need for the team to comprehend the required competitive level and extract valuable lessons from the defeat, telling the Premier League channel, “We need to understand the level we need to compete, and learn.”
