One half of the defunct group Psquare music group, Peter Okoye, who now goes by the name “Mr P” has disclosed how the fuji genre inspired him and why it is important to Nigerian music.

He made this assertion while speaking at the announcement press conference of the 2018 edition of One Lagos Fiesta held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Lagos Secretariat, Alausa.

In his brief statement, he expressed his admiration for the two Fuji legends- Adewale Ayuba and Saheed Osupa– who were in attendance.

“Fuji is one of the most important genres in Nigerian music”, he said. “We cannot do without Fuji Artsites in Nigeria, Fuji music brings out the culture of Nigeria.”

He added also that Fuji was one of the genres he danced to while growing up as a child in Jos, Plateau state. “Fuji was my jam!” he said has the fuji musicians in the hall laughed and clapped.

One Lagos Fiesta is one of the rare events where music of all genres have a common ground to perform and collaborate. The annual concert is billed to take off on Christmas Eve and will hold simultaneously in five locations across Lagos until the climax on New Year’s Eve.

More than fifty top-notch artistes are expected to perform at all the locations- Agege, Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu and Victoria Island.
