Why U. S and India rejected Mr. Ibu -- Actors Guild of Nigeria

In a recent statement, the Actors Guild of Nigeria has shed light on the circumstances surrounding the late comedy actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, and the inability to secure overseas medical treatment during his illness.

Chief Emeka Rollas, the president of the union, addressed the matter in response to a viral video on Afia TV, confirming that Mr. Ibu was not taken abroad for medical treatment due to complications regarding his health condition.

According to Rollas, hospitals in the United States and India declined to admit Mr. Ibu for treatment as his prognosis rendered him unfit for air travel.

The renowned actor, Mr. Ibu, passed away on March 2 after a prolonged battle with illness, as reported by SaharaReporters. The publication had previously highlighted Mr. Ibu’s deteriorating health condition in December 2023, mentioning the amputation of one of his legs and his struggles with communication.

Explaining the challenges faced in seeking treatment abroad for Mr. Ibu, Emeka Rollas stated,

“There was a time we wanted to fly Ibu abroad, but when we escalated the doctor’s reference and his prognosis, almost all the hospitals in India and America rejected him and said whoever that has this kind of prognosis cannot survive flight to any country.”
