Why Ronaldo isn’t a Chelsea player after talks with Jorge Mendes
With the summer transfer window nearing an end, it seems the whole narrative from now on will be shifted towards Manchester United star, Cristiano Ronaldo.
And now, according to some revelations, the Portuguese very nearly became a Blue had Chelsea and Todd Boehly followed through on their negotiations with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes.
The whole deal to land the 5 time golden ball winner fell through when Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel received an advice from former Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Ragnick not to pursue the former Juventus star.
Ralf Ragnick has so far unexpectedly become something of an anti-agent to Manchester United, either denying players from going to the club or halting deals for their player.
It is no news that the 37 year old wants out of Old Trafford, after informing the club he wants to play Champions League football.
And at a time, Chelsea were one of the clubs interested in signing Ronaldo, but they eventually opted not to after talks between Tuchel and club co-owner Todd Boehly.
According to the Times, it was Boehly’s idea to push for the signing as he liked the prospect of building the attack around him.
But it is now revealed Tuchel was the one that kicked against the transfer on the advice of his mentor and former United boss Rangnick, who managed Ronaldo last term.
Ragnick has been a notable critic of Ronaldo regarding his pressing capabilities during his time managing the club.
