The Lagos State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Otunba Segun Adewale has said that the leadership crisis rocking the PDP is being orchestrated by some external forces struggling for the soul of the party towards 2019 presidential ticket. Adewale wondered why the likes of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former vice President prefer working to be nominated by the PDP from outside rather than coming back to the party and join hands with well meaning loyal leaders in the ongoing rebuilding effort.
Adewale condemned the baseless accusations that the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is an agent of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC). According to him, this accusation which he described as generally unfounded is a figment of the imagination of some paid elements within the party. He said “these agents are working toward the nomination Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as our presidential flagbearer in the 2019 general elelection. “They have resorted to cheap blackmail as it is becoming obvious that the efforts of Ali Modu Sheriff at frustrating every attempt to impose a non party member as our presidential nominee is beginning to gain the attention of well meaning members”.
“This is a case of a pot calling kettle black. How can those promoting the nomination of a known leader of the APC as our presidential flagbearer accuse another of working for the ruling party?” According to him, Senator Ahmed Markafi and his cohorts are the agents working against the interest and progress of the party ahead of 2019 presidential election. “If you x-ray recent activities in the party and comments of the Markafi led illegal faction, it’s obvious who is working against the general interest of our party. Everything is about Abubakar Atiku’s ambition to be President in 2019” he said.
Aeroland, as he is popularly called, said if indeed Atiku Abubakar and those promoting him wishes to pick the presidential ticket of PDP, he should be bold enough to come back to the party they destroyed in the build up to the 2015 general. “There is no point going through the back door as there is room within the party for every genuine member seeking political office”.
The PDP chieftain pointed out that candidates presented by the Ahmed Markafi led faction of the party in Edo and Ondo States recently concluded governorship elections, Pastor Eze Iyamu and Eyitayo Jegede are both known allies of the former Vice President “this is a pointer to where they are tilting towards”.
Adewale called on the Ahmed Markafi led faction to embrace genuine reconciliation. He urged all aggrieved factions to come together for the sake of presenting a formidable candidate in the 2019 presidential election. He stressed empathetically that ‘all the efforts towards genuine reconciliation have been rebuffed by Markafi’s team. “The peace deal that both sides should jointly conduct a new National Convention with equal number of members agreed to by both sides failed because Markafi reneged on the proposal that two of them step down and for former President Ebele Goodluck Jonathan to head the committee.
“It is unfortunate that it seem while Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is all about rebuilding PDP to a formidable opposition party that can stand against the current charade and  political ineptitude of the ruling All Progressive Congress ( APC), the other faction is busy negotiating a mega party deal with some aggrieved members of the ruling APC”. He said Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Lagos state chapter under his leadership would support every move to rescued PDP from its internal enemies and repositioned to win in future elections.
‎Adewale maintains that it is obvious that the All Progressive Congress (APC) both at the national and state levels have no grip on the economy hence they have brought untold hardship on Nigerians in their one and half years in office. “Isn’t it shameful that a government of almost two years still leads the nation’s economy into deeper darkness? PDP holds the hope for Nigeria and its leaders must raise up to salvage our future. Our leaders must resolve their differences for the sake of the Nigerian masses who are looking up to our party for quality and effective leadership.” Adewale urges.
