"Why Nigeria will never break" --- Afuye

Ekiti Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye has some real belief about the unity of Nigeria despite the tensions tearing the country apart.

Monisade Afuye in a recent statement reaffirmed that the bond of unity among Nigerians will continue to strengthen despite the nation’s multifaceted challenges. She emphasized that Nigeria is united by a “divine mandate of God.”

Addressing attendees in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, during the wedding ceremony of Blessing Eyakenyi and Olumuyiwa Adewumi, Afuye appealed to parents to encourage their children to engage in inter-ethnic marriages. She urged citizens to foster traits that promote unity rather than aggravate existing divisions.

Blessing Eyakenyi, the bride, is the daughter of Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi. The groom, Olumuyiwa Adewumi, hails from Ekiti State. Afuye, speaking through a statement signed by her Special Assistant on Media, Victor Ogunje, praised the couple for transcending ethnic differences to form a united family.

Highlighting the resilience of Nigeria’s unity, Afuye stated that inter-ethnic marriages and strong political relationships among Nigerians contribute significantly to the nation’s inseparability. She argued that such unions are a testament to the irrelevance of ethno-religious differences in personal relationships and social cohesion.

“I feel honoured to be here to grace this marriage ceremony between our daughter, Miss Blessing Eyakenyi, and our son, Olumuyiwa Adewumi, who are now joined as a united family as Mr. and Mrs. Adewumi,” Afuye said. “I feel elated on the premise that this marriage further attests to how united we are as Nigerians. Nothing can divide us as a people because we are a nation joined by the divine mandate of God.”

She further stated, “The fact that we have intermarried and shared common family values makes Nigerians inseparable, no matter the cultural disparity and ethno-religious differences.”

Afuye’s remarks underscore the importance of inter-ethnic marriages in promoting national unity and the enduring strength of Nigeria’s diverse but cohesive society.
