Why I’m over qualified to be Governor and deserve Presidency – Rochas Okorocha
The Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha has said that he is over qualified to be governor, but would rather be Nigeria’s President. He made this confession after six years as governor.
Okorocha, while addressing journalists in Owerri yesterday, said that he prefers being a president of Nigeria rather than being a state governor.
The governor quickly chipped in that he has no intention of challenging President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election if Buhari decides to recontest.
“Governor does not fit me. What fits me is the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I will not contest against Buhari”, Okorocha said.
It would be recalled that Okorocha had previously been a presidential candidate under the Action Alliance Party and was a presidential aspirant during the All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention which produced President Muhammadu Buhari as the APC candidate in the 2015 general elections.
While commenting on his victory against the then ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo state, he had said the PDP, lost the 2015 election in Imo State because Emeka Ihedioha “took” the ticket.
Okorocha, who was quoted in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, stated, “again, we have also decided not to be reacting to Chief Ihedioha’s constant media attacks on Governor Okorocha, because we have discovered that it gives outsiders the erroneous impression that they are still relevant in Imo politics, when in actual fact, they have all gone into political oblivion.”
“The fact is that Chief Ihedioha sustained his growth in politics from 2003 to 2015 through name-dropping and that ugly development ended in 2015.”
“When he took the ticket of the PDP for the 2015 gubernatorial election, everybody knew that the party had denied itself the needed impact it would have made in that election”.
