“Why I won’t be in a haste to congratulate Tinubu” — Bode George
In a recent development, the Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed Bola Tinubu as the President of the country, dismissing the petition filed by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi.
Reacting to this verdict, a former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Bode George, expressed a cautious response to Tinubu’s victory, refraining from immediate congratulations. George cited the need for a thorough analysis of the Supreme Court’s ruling before making any hasty decisions.
He emphasized the importance of not rushing to congratulate the President, as it could lead to potential missteps, especially given the complex details of the ruling.
George stressed that this outcome serves as a valuable lesson for the PDP, demonstrating that God has chosen to impart a significant lesson to the party and its members.
George stated,
“We just have to commit things into the hand of God, for God to lead us aright. Though the ruling of the Supreme Court is the final verdict, we still need to study it.
“If one should hurry to do things, he may end up regretting his action. We need to carefully study the ruling; it is too early to start jumping up and down.”
According to the PDP Chieftain, the party now needs to return to the drawing board and formulate a new strategy.
He said,
“Our party has a great lesson to learn from the ruling. If anything happens to you, you need to calm down to resolve it; so we need to study the situation clearly – where did things go wrong? What is it that we did not do well? It is a lesson for us in the PDP.”
George further emphasized the significance of studying the dispositions of each judge in the case and understanding the advice and lessons that have arisen from this verdict.
