“When things are good, I take all the limelight” — Mbappe
Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé has shouldered the blame for their Champions League exit on Tuesday, following their semi-final defeat against Borussia Dortmund, which concluded 2-0 on aggregate after a 1-0 loss in the second leg.
Mbappé openly acknowledged that missed opportunities, including some from himself, were pivotal in determining the outcome of the match.
Despite dominating possession with nearly 70% and unleashing 30 shots in the second leg, PSG failed to capitalize on their chances, hitting the woodwork four times.
Reflecting on the result, Mbappé admitted, “I tried to help my team as best as I could, but I didn’t do enough. When we talk about efficiency in the boxes, I think I’m the one targeted. I’m the guy who should score goals and be decisive.”
Acknowledging the ebbs and flows of football, Mbappé accepted the responsibility that comes with being a key player, stating, “When things are good, I take all the limelight, and when they are not, you have to take the shadow. That’s not a problem.”
Taking a candid approach, Mbappé recognized his own missed opportunities, declaring, “The first one who should have scored tonight was me. That’s life, and we have to move on, me and the team.”
