What’s left for Ben Chilwell at Chelsea — Enzo Maresca
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca doesn’t hide the truth behind Left-Back, Ben Chilwell’s stay at Stamford Bridge nor the reality that the club wanted to do away with the England international.
Over the summer transfer window, the West London side had made it clear that they wanted the exit of a number of its stars including Ben Chilwell away from the club. However, the former Leicester City player’s case came out differently from the others who eventually left the club.
In a recent interview, the Italian manager revealed that it was true that Ben Chilwell was minutes away from stepping out of Stamford Bridge after the club had banished him from first-team training, however Chilwell’s exit stalled due to the transfer falling through.

This, according to Enzo Maresca, left Chilwell in an isolated situation that made his case a unique one which was much different from Raheem Sterling.
Maresca goes on to state that the dead end forced the Chelsea to welcome the left-back into the team, albeit with uncertainty to the role he would play in the team moving forward.
“Ben was ready to leave, but he’s training well with us now,” Maresca admitted, though he hinted Chilwell’s game time remains in doubt, saying, “Game after game, we’ll consider using him.”
With Chilwell unlikely to feature in Chelsea’s squad for their clash against West Ham, it begs the question: Will he fight his way back into the team, or is he still destined for the exit door?
From the outlook of things, it appears it is the latter.
