What to know about new IRT boss, Tunji Disu

Published

Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba on Monday appointed Tunji Disu as the new head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

The unit was previously managed by deputy commissioner of police, DCP Abba Kyari before his suspension by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Sunday, August 1.

Kyari was suspended by the IGP over his alleged relationship with Ramon Abbas, self-confessed international fraudster better known as Hushpuppi.

Hushpuppi had alleged that he bribed Kyari to arrest and jail “one of his rivals in Nigeria after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on Qatari business people”.

But Kyari denied any wrongdoing, saying he never collected money from Hushpuppi.

However, Police spokesperson, Frank Mba said Disu’s appointment is to fill the leadership vacuum within the IRT and refocus the unit for better service delivery.
