What Mbappe and PSG stand to gain from Real Madrid

The long-speculated departure of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain has been officially confirmed by the French striker himself.

Mbappe, whose contract with PSG is set to expire in the summer, took to social media after the club’s Champions League semi-final exit to Borussia Dortmund to announce his farewell after seven years with the Parisian club.

In an emotional message, Mbappe bid adieu to PSG and expressed gratitude for his time at the club, stating,

“It’s a lot of emotions, many years where I had the chance and the great honour to be a member of the biggest French club, one of the best in the world.”

Speculation surrounding Mbappe’s next destination has centered around Real Madrid, with reports suggesting that an agreement between the player and the Spanish giants has been in place since February. If the move materializes, it could potentially mark one of the most expensive free transfers in football history.

According to renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, all terms have been agreed upon for Mbappe’s switch to the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite currently commanding a staggering salary of £171 million-a-year at PSG, Mbappe is reportedly willing to take a pay cut at Real Madrid.

However, he is expected to remain the highest-paid player at the club and is set to receive a substantial signing-on fee, potentially exceeding £100 million.

Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol commented on the financial aspects of the deal, stating,

“The money that Real Madrid would have been paying as a transfer fee, they are basically going to be paying to the player instead. He will be getting a massive signing-on fee – there are reports in Spain that it could be over £100m.”

Mbappe is set to make his final appearance at the Parc des Princes on Sunday, where he will bid an emotional farewell to the PSG supporters. Reflecting on his decision to seek a new challenge, Mbappe acknowledged the difficulty of his departure but expressed his desire for growth after seven years at PSG.

However, for Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappe leaving the Parc des Princes for Real Madrid will be a beneficial move than a loss to them.

According to Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, PSG stand to save more than €200m if the former AS Monaco man leaves.

This includes a one-year extension which at the moment will no longer be triggered and also this season’s loyalty bonus of about €80m which will no longer be paid to Mbappe.

PSG intends to use the money saved from Mbappe leaving to invest in at least 4 to 5 players in its rebuild.
