What it would take to sign Haaland from Manchester City

Manchester City’s top signing, Erling Haaland has been the talk of many football analysts, pundits and fans alike that every discussion is centered around what his impact to the Cityzens would be ahead of the coming 2022/23 season.

For someone who is regarded as quite the marquee signing, it’s hard to imagine Manchester City hasn’t placed a number of deterrents to put clubs off signing the player in the near future.

And rightly so, the Etihad club has placed in the Norwegian’s contract two different release clauses that either puts rival clubs off signing the player in the future or ensures City doesn’t stand to lose their star for nothing.

Those release clauses were fixed in different patterns in that there are specific clauses placed in the first two years of Haaland’s stay at the Etihad, with the other in the 3rd year of his stay with the Cityzens.

The clauses were fixed for the years 2024 and 2025, with any rival club looking to sign the star in 2024 required to pay nothing less than a whopping €200 million fee, or a €175 million fee should they return in the summer of 2025.

These fees don’t include the added bonuses that may be included in the deal.

Although, the catch is that, the clauses can only be activated by Manchester City as long as Haaland gets to complete certain sporting objectives with the club, either based on appearances, wins or trophies when within that time frame.

It is only if these objectives are completed that the Norwegian can terminate his contract with the club or would the release clauses be activated.

With Real Madrid set to replace forward man, Karim Benzema during that time frame, it would become quite interesting how the La Liga side does with their interests on the forward.

It was widely rumored that Real Madrid had eyes on either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland, but had to give up on Haaland for Mbappe once they felt the deal for the Frenchman was 100 percent a possibility.

With Erling Haaland commanding the reported wage of £375,000-a-week that rivals star midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, it remains to be seen how the Norwegian can be priced out of the Etihad in 2 or 3 seasons time.
