Western Delta university: Armed robbers disrupt academic activities

Academic activities at Western Delta University in Oghara, Delta State, were temporarily disrupted on Thursday following an invasion by suspected armed robbers.

According to Punch, the intruders gained access through an unfenced section at the rear of the Western Delta university campus, intending to rob students.

Upon sensing the danger, students quickly raised the alarm and sought safety in nearby areas.

The timely intervention by law enforcement agents reportedly prevented any casualties or significant disruptions to the university’s operations, as the invaders fled in different directions upon spotting the security operatives.

When contacted, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident. “They (the suspected robbers) entered through the broken fence at the back of the school, but the police responded swiftly and they fled,” he said.

A student leader at the university, Simeon Okpoko, commented, “The incident underscores ongoing security challenges facing educational institutions and highlights the importance of vigilant security measures to safeguard students and staff alike.”

In response, the university management is enhancing security measures to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of the university community.
