“We’ll never play Ajax Football at Man United” — Erik ten Hag vows
Don’t count on me to play exciting football at Manchester United, former Ajax boss, Erik ten Hag advises Man United fans.
Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has squashed whatever hopes the United fanbase may have of seeing high pressing football at Old Trafford with his recent statement to the media.
The Dutchman who was famous for inspiring some great attacking play while at Ajax, vows that Manchester United will never see that kind of play as long as he is manager of the club.
Addressing his critics in the interview, Erik ten Hag spoke candidly on why the Man United fanbase should not expect what he did at Ajax over in the premier league.
The Dutch manager said;
“Never. We will never play that football. Because those were different players. This is also not why I came here.”
“We are playing different football than I showed at Ajax because I have to—and I can’t play the same way.”
Erik ten Hag goes on to explain the reason behind his statement, stating;
“The players decide how you play. Ajax has a very typical and characteristic style of play, with Manchester United I will always show different football, I did so last year as well.”
He also shed light on the specific style of play he has adopted at Manchester United, stating,
“We play much more direct football here because I have the players for that at United.”
Erik ten Hag‘s comments may be a direct criticism on Manchester United’s hierarchy, and perhaps a cry for help.
